[ Engaged: Personal Post ]
Jacob and I are engaged!!!
I cannot even begin to describe how special this is for me. It has been a long time coming but it was so worth the wait. Jacob and I have a bit of a different love story. So here it goes…
I will never forget the first time I met Jacob, it was the first week of school of my third year in grade school when my teacher introduced the class to a student that would be joining our class that year. “Class, I would like everyone to say a big hello to Jacob here.” From there it was history…just kidding, we still considered the other had cooties back then at that age. As the years went by in elementary school we approached the beginning of our last year, sixth grade. One memory stands out in my mind, after school I tended to wait a little bit longer than the rest of the kids did for my parents to get me because we didn’t live in the area. I saw Jacob was sitting in his mom’s van with the slider door open talking to a few kids and they looked like they were interested in something, so I went over and took a look. Keep in the mind at that age, pokemon was the fad and I had almost completed my whole collection of cards so anything pokemon I was all about. He was selling huge pokemon stickers for $5 each, which he probably only paid .25 cents for, he was quite the hustler. I luckily had some change from buying lunch that day, which was probably suppose to go towards the following days lunch but instead I took that money and bought a stupid charzard sticker from him. I was just so stinking excited about this sticker and how perfect it was going to go on my pokemon binder. I still have it.
Another little story, my dad bought me these beautiful diamond earrings and I wore them everyday, one day at the talent show practice after school I had noticed that one of them was missing from my ear. I informed everyone and Jacob especially was determined to find it, and he did! He was my hero that day, because I didn’t find it, I was going to be in major trouble. Now we come to an end to elementary school and it is our sixth grade graduation. We are all waiting in the cafeteria and they start pairing the kids together for a rehearsal to walk down the isle way for the ceremony. “Juliana Ljubisavljevic! You will be with…” I wait getting a little nervous wondering who’s name she was going to call, “Jacob!.” Was this all a sign? I have to go on a search to dig up those pictures of us that day.
Moving forward to middle school, Sutter Middle school. Lets just say all the girls had a huge crush on Jacob and I wasn’t sure if I did or didn’t yet. I mean he is cute, but the problem is that he knows he is. I realized I didn’t think I did after this incident. It was lunch break and everyone was conjuring in the quad area and I just finished eating and walked through the quad area back to a bench I was sitting at with friends. As I am about half way through the grass area I noticed everyone around me start to run away, I didn’t realize why until I look up in the sky, the seagulls decided to take flight and everyone was running for cover. But the moment I looked up a big gulp of seagull crap landed smack dab in my exposed open eyeball. I will never forget the sting, burn and disgusting warm sensation that flooded my face. I was humiliated, everyone at that school either saw it or heard about it that year. I was sheer panicked I ran to the closet person I knew to help me out because I could barely see, it so happened to be Jacob. As I went to look for his comfort to help a friend out he leaned back and bolted out in laughter, I was so so embarrassed, thank goodness my good friend at the time came to the rescue and rushed me to the bathroom. What a jerk right? I have heard that it is good luck if you get pooped on by a bird, but I have a feeling that they just say that to make you feel better. By the way I have had a fear of seagulls flying above me ever since. Karma came back just a little when the 8th grade graduation, he was so burned from the sun that in all his pictures his face looked like a lobster that just came out of a boiling pot. Man I wish I had all these pictures scanned so I put them all on display here.
Then high school came along, we went separate ways freshman year. Sophomore year approached and it was the very first day. I was walking to my first class and it was a huge crowded mess. But when I saw who was in the crowd across from me and who also had locked eye contact with me, everyone else seemed to disappear. We finally got close enough to have a conversation and it was a big surprise to see him there because I had no idea he was transferring to my high school. That is when we started talking, I knew that I was starting to like him and I guess he started to like me. From there it was history, we went to every homecoming dance, prom and event together. Again, wishing I had some prom pics to put on here. We wrote notes to each other everyday and I still have all of them kept.
I will fast forward a little more here, college approached and Jacob got accepted and started attending Sonoma state and I was enrolled at Sacramento State. We decided we wanted to make it work and stay together and I am sure glad we did because I had some of the best times going and visiting him at Sonoma state, it was like a mini vacation each time. Jacob ended up transferring to SacState the last year and I was so happy to have him home. And then graduation came along, we were thrilled to be all done.
Then we fast forward a few more years until we are to this past weekend. Jacob had a surprise trip planned for us. I didn’t think too much about it but was looking forward to seeing what he had planned for us. We left Friday afternoon, headed down south, hit some LA traffic and I still did not know where we are going or where we were. Finally that evening when we were at dinner I see his sister, Alyssa, walk in the restaurant and then it clicked, we were in Newport, where his sister attends college. I was so excited but still was confused about what we were doing exactly all the way down in Newport. The following day we had to wake up early to head out, we drive down to Balboa and then I noticed we were going to be going on a boat. My first thought, crap well I do not have anything to wear for a boat, I mean I had a bathing suit but I just wasn’t prepared for this. Then I was put at ease to find out that this was just transportation to where we were going and we were not going to be out on a boat all day. If you know me, you know that I am the kind of girl that likes to be prepared for all occasions and make sure I have everything I need. Our destination, CATALINA ISLAND. We were going to the flipping Catalina wine mixer, no not really but its fun to say.
We arrived on the island, I was taken away by the beautiful views and the nice fresh ocean air. It looked like a little part out of Greece. By this time I start to get camera/pictures crazy happy as some refer to it as. So we got off and couldn’t think of anything but food, we were starving, so our plan was to grab something to eat and then go and book an excursion, either zip lining or an inland tour to see the island and bison that roamed around. We found a cute place to stuff our faces and grab a few drinks, this place is where they gave me the awesome hat you see in the pictures above. Then we went on our way back to book an activity. We walk up to the booth and they proceed to tell us that everything is sold out for the day. We were super bummed, so what do we do? Walk back and drink some more cocktails and walk around the island. We came across a place that was renting out golf cart that offered you to put around the island and go up on the hills. So we rented one for a two hour duration and started up toward the hill to see the views. Made a few stops to explore and then we were headed back around the other side to complete our trip, because our two hours was almost up to turn the golf cart back in. As we are headed back down Jacob decided to stop on top of a hill spot, in a spot that we were not suppose to stop and people were kind of telling us that we shouldn’t park there but Jacob seemed preoccupied walking to the side of the cliff over looking this beautiful view. He said set your camera up on a timer, I thought um what? you hate pictures. I tried to do it but our golf cart was too far away to prop the camera up on it so it just wasn’t working because we were not close enough to even really see us. So he quickly said alright well just let me take a quick picture of you on my phone, I was still weirded out and said okay…he told me to face away from him and look at the view. I said okay now what and he said put your arms up and “I said okay, got it?” And then he said, “now turn around.” As I turn around I see Jacob kneeling down on one knee with a beautiful ring in his hand and he proceeded to say a few words as the rush of shock, excitement and trying to see if I was dreaming flush over me. Then it came out, “will you marry me?” He said I looked like a deer in headlights. I covered my face and was just sheer stunned. “Is that a yes?” oh my goodness I didn’t answer, what the heck is wrong with me? “YES, YES, YES!” I blurted out. This was one the happiest days of my life!
We have had quite the journey throughout these years and I would not trade it for the world, it is our journey and I hold it very dear to my heart. Cannot wait to add to to this journey for many more years.
I am still in shock and so very happy and excited to be engaged to the love of my life. He means the world to me and I can now shout it from the rooftops that we are engaged! Cannot wait to plan this party of a wedding with you and officially start our lives together. You are my forever babe!
